John Jones Gresham writings, 1831-1835.

The collection consists of two books of Gresham's writings. The smaller includes his valedictory speech as well as his other speeches delivered at his graduation from the University of Georgia on 27 July 1833. The larger volume dated January 6, 1831, is entitled "Select and original pieces". This contains an assortment of speeches and writings including those of the smaller volume. Reversing the book, Gresham began using it for problems as well as a calendar of comings and goings. Then, in 1835, he used the book for his finances.

John Jones Gresham was born in Burke County, Georgia, January 21, 1812, the son of Job and Mary Jones Gresham. He attended school at Waynesboro and Richmond Bath, Georgia before entering the University of Georgia in 1830. After a private study of law, he was admitted to the Georgia bar in 1834 and opened a practice in Waynesboro but soon moved to Macon.
